A rare hairy anglerfish that entered the Museum’s collections 13 years ago had perplexed researchers with its massive stomach. However, the specimen was so rare they didn’t want to cut it open to identify its last meal. Now, using micro-CT scanners, the Museum’s imaging experts have finally been able to solve the mystery…

I like how he tells us what a “3D” scan is… it’s literally the one thing I think we all knew already 😂
I always pictured these as big as me, like they could eat my head. Another scary thrill lost to practical reality. Sigh. 😅
Cause of death? Beeing fill any slow and Unfortunately running into Natural history museum worker ?
I love science. I just wish I wasn't so stupid and could understand it.
0:32 that angler fish was caught in 1902 and preserved all this time in that great of shape ? Then again formaldehyde even in the distant past was pretty effective stuff. There's a head from a guillotine exucution victim (a convicted serial killer) from circa 1840 still in life like shape all these years later. Could 1902 possibly be representing something else not the year ? Like specimen one thousand nine hundred and two the museum logged into there records ? Something like that ?
This is amazing but the fact I can’t fully enjoy the ct scan because of pop up videos
Thank you for teaching me a lot if you saw a kid with a green and blue jacket that is me a 7 year old boy and a 61 year old dad.
Man, this would be a great to bet on, what's in the stomach…. $20 on Jimmy Hoffa!
Nobody is ever going to ask what's in it's stomach, if it is hidden away in a jar in the storage vault.
I totally agree that all deep sea mining must be prevented or stopped if already begun. If there is any way I can assist in stopping it, I will.
Why do things get more and more evil looking in the eyes the deeper out to sea they live?
Do they have to take inventory of the specimins after lunch?? Few crackers, a little hot sauce and formaldahyded fish…mmmmmm.
Can we talk about how at 2:57 it looks like there is a bearded man piloting that fish from the inside of its mouth
the fact that the audible translator showed the name of the prey fish rly'eh at ritter is creepy
