Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth enjoyable.fishing recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.

Bought a new BG 3000 from J&H last week. The first two that looked at backlash in the main gear. I took home best one I could find on the shelf. I fished it twice and there's a noticeable knock when reeling from excessive play in the main gear. Not sure if the main gear is machined incorrectly or just needs a side shim. Either way since I used it I have to send it to the Diawa warranty service center.

Could you fish 8# braid on bg 3000, if so what size mono would you back fill with and how much mono would you put on for 200 yds of 8# braid?

Is there any marking on Daiwa BG reels that tell you the year of reel production? How would you know if the BG you purchased wasn't an older model?

I can’t decide on the BG3000 or 3500 I have a small fishing boat and will mainly be doing rivers creeks inter coastal and some inshore with the boat. Everyone is saying if you can only get one reel get the 3500 for it will suit all your needs but it’s a whole 4 oz heavier with not much more drag lb and not much more line retrieve. I personally think the 3000 on a 7ft rod would be good but everywhere I’m reading is sayin go ahead with the 3500 in case ya snag somethin big. Just seems like a much bigger reel without a bigger benefit.

Hey there Josh, I’ve been looking for a new feel for my 7’ MH St Croix Triumph Surf and I’ve heard great things about this reel. What would you recommend, the 2500 size or the 3000 for my 7’ triumph? I mostly use this pole for schoolies from shore, or bottom feeders such as Porgys, Sea Bass, and tautog from the boat.

Can you explain drag in relation to the size of fish? The 3000 has 15.4 max drag… what does that mean and what size fish is this ideal for?

Im torn between this and the 2500 size. I would be using it for porgy(inshore saltwater) and freshwater bass and trout. What size would you recommend?

15.4lb of drag is great, but new series of daiwa, especially LT series, for example new tatula, has 22 pound of drag and same size spool. how can they do it ? I really wonder. Thank you Mr. Josh.

I recently got the 3000 BG and am far less than impressed with the particular one I got the spool rubs and under any amount of load I can hear the gears whining the reel is less than a week old and haven't caught a fish on it. is there anything I can do to grease the gears to quite it?

BG 3000 or Nasci 4000? The BG seems more robust but the Nasci is super smooth. I'm fishing for blue fish, sea bass, small AJs and Bonitos.
