DIY FISHING WORMS – Grow Your Own At Home!

Starting a worm farm for fishing is actually very easy. Any container will do, but remember surface area is more important than depth as composting worms will usually only hang out in the top few inches of compost. Cardboard, leaves, horse rabbit or cow manure, grass clippings, newspaper, and other organic material can double as both bedding and food, however you may want to also add food scraps or “worm chow” (I use ground up chicken feed) to supercharge your worms growth and be able to hold more worms in a container. I use these worms for fishing almost every day. My worms are a mix of european nightcrawlers, and red wigglers. If you are lucky enough to have worms in your soil at home you can start your bin with free worms, otherwise you can buy them by the cup at walmart or by the pound online! Thanks for watching !

I have a bin like u have there, i have put dozens of worms in use alittle here and there for fishing, its been 3 years now and not really much worms to talk about, so for me it aint worth trying to grow for fishing.

Prices have significantly increased…pound of big reds now go for 35 to 40 dollars. If you know of a cheaper source please let everybody know.

Thanks for the vid! Got a few questions as I'm planning to start my own box since I don't want to pay too much…

– what is their ideal temperature and humidity? Snowy winter is around the corner, just want to see what my options are
– you mentioned about starting with any size container. If I start with a 5 gallon container, how would I know I have too many worms?
– do they smell?
– what kind of food is ideal for them of food scrap isn't available?

Thanks for your time!!

Raising compost worms are fun. I now have 5 species: Reds, Blues, European Night Crawlers, African Night Crawlers, and Louisiana Swamp Worms. The last one is especially good for fishing.
