Have the rods started to show wear at the spot that they rotate in the pipes?

Really stupid question, but how did you get the wood into those channels? I've cut my boards down, but they are too long to rotate into place.

Quick update or Upgrade…….. For the holders holding my larger rods/reels I did decide to cut a 3/4" slot in the PVC couplings on the rod tip end. This slot was cut at around the 11 o'clock position and allows a much easier way to put the larger rods into place without risking guide damage. Now its just slip the butt of the rod into one of the PVC couplings and drop the rod tip end in the other..

Oh yeah, if you decide to do this cut the slots while the PVC is mounted to the pine boards, cutting those suckers on a work bench without a vise is next to impossible..
