In the U.S. the mesh lists as "hardware cloth". and the fastener can be found under the term "hourglass swage".

Not really freshwater fisherman, but here in Spain beach fishing is not so good, so tend to goto a local lake for carp using homemade open end feeders using a hair curler, strip of lead and a rubber O-ring tucked under the lead, they work fine and cost nothing when her in doors is watching

Really enjoyed the video.
Am puzzled I thought we were not allowed to use lead in course fishing in the UK.

I make a lot of my own tackle, lures, and flies. But being a Yank, feeders are not something we do. Maybe I can change that…..

Some lovely barbel there, when I see videos like this, I can’t wait to go fishing. I made a few items of tackle as a lad in school, in metal work class. I remember one item in particular that I was very proud of at the time, until it came to using it, I made a landing net head out of steel, then realised I could hardly lift it so it was practically useless.😁

Hi graeme – The Rod you caught the first fish on, is that a John Wilson Heavy Feeder Rod?

I use plastic woman's curlers, the come in all sizes and all I do is wind some lead wire to the required weight and wire in a premodern wire trace to which, like you I attach my hook above the feeder. All in all I priced them up at 35p

I miss barbel, I wish they'd put some in the Shannon, it could be Europes best barbel river I reckon!

Such a good idea – I had an idea though mate… if you left 3 or 4 more squares before your initial cut [more overhang] you could then use taht to hold the lead in place and then just double lock the 2 edges together with a fold over to hold it in place?
I would love your thoughts on this!

Reply
April 28, 2022

Try a method feeder " wire round lead " under a slider float works great 👍

Reply
April 28, 2022

I think that is what we in th US call hardware cloth!

Reply
April 28, 2022

I have used knee high panty hose an cut squares to wrap chicken livers in to keep them on the hook and as abag for dog/fish food to attrack fish.. lol

Sounds good except most places in the U.S. now we aren't allowed to use lead weights because it poison's birds and animals….

Reply
April 28, 2022

That's really good! Is it possible for the heavy line to slip out of the lead that you folded over? I've only just got into fishing going for the third time next weekend
