I have used tinsel for big flies and jigs. Not the most durable, but catches a large range of fish and cheap and easy. Red and Silver are a great colour combo.
Bass fishing doesn't get any better than fishing a golf course or private lake. That's when you are bound to land a 4+ pounder and have days when you'd be catching over 10 fish. Those bass hardly get pressured, so you can practically throw anything out there at any speed and still catch them. Great places to go to as you wait for waters to warm up more earlier in the year. That 7 pounder your buddy caught is just like the 6 pound bucketmouths I used to catch at a golf course.
