FIVE YEARS LATER the KastKing ROVER Fishing Reel – a Conventional Baitcasting Fishing Reels HISTORY

Here’s how to see inside the KastKing Rover fishing reel and its story. This KastKing video tells you the history of the KastKing Conventional Round Baitcaster reels along with some comments from fishing pros. See where these KastKing conventional reels have been fishing and what they are catching.

KastKing Rover Story

Here’s the KastKing Rover story …When the company started, there was only one product – Eposeidon SuperPower Braided fishing line.

By the following year we established the KastKing brand and started producing fishing reels. One of those reels was the KastKing Rover. It has been a perennial bestseller in the USA ever since and is now in use in more than 100 countries. Originally it was called the KastKing RXA and underwent some subtle upgrades including a bearing change, the bearing count, an internal design upgrade and a name change to the KastKing Rover fishing reel, which had a friendlier feel. Essentially, it was the same reel. You can still see those KastKing first generation RXA and Rover reels out on the water today.

KastKing Rover Upgrades

As time went on, and sales of the iconic KastKing Rover series climbed, the casting reel underwent a few more significant improvements and changes to increase the drag and stronger side plates were added.

All of the ball bearings were upgraded from regular Ball Bearings to MaxiDur Double Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings, and two more ball bearings were added at critical points.

The quality of the palm and gear side covers were improved by upgrading them to thick aluminum.

Plastic idle gears that are still being used by other major brands were upgraded to patented brass idler gears in the Rover.

Some of the other changes along the way were cosmetic, although the classic red color of the KastKing round conventional casting reel has always remained.

KastKing Rover Reels Sizes For Every Purpose

The KastKing Rover full metal body round conventional reel has enjoyed a terrific history for freshwater and saltwater fishing. KastKing Rover has been along on many memorable fishing trips. It has taken a personal best for quite a few anglers. Made in Rover 40, Rover 50, Rover 60, and Rover 70, 80, and 90 sizes in right hand and left hand retrieve Rover has been used successfully by recreational anglers, as well as charter fishing captains and professional fishing guides for giant blue catfish and sturgeon, and for saltwater striped bass, red fish, fluke, shark fishing and all types of bottom dwelling saltwater fish. Some anglers have even taken the Rover big largemouth bass fishing for casting live shiners.

Benchmark components continue to keep the KastKing Rover among the best sellers. A combination of: reinforced hard anodized aluminum side plates and spool, precision machined brass gears, all alloy flawless level wind, industry-first stainless steel worm gear, and stainless steel shafts are a few of the parts of KastKing Rover’s legacy.

Rover’s drag system has been totally upgraded for 2019 to newly designed Cymbal Shape Washers that now can provide up to 50% more drag for up to 30 LB of drag.

The Future of KastKing Rover

Where will the KastKing Rover go from here? It’s hard to say, but KastKing is always looking to improve fishing tackle products through our philosophy of affordable innovation. Based on the Rover’s successful history, It is safe to say that the Rover will stay in the KastKing lineup for a long time to come.

I have multiple abu's, and I can honestly say ,I love my rover. Disassembly and matainence is a breeze.its made with good quality bearings and gears,I hate to say it but it casts better than most of my abu's. I agree the rover will be around for a long time, can't beat the quality for the price!!!! 1 honest fisherman's review!

What KastKing Reel would you recommend for Westcoast deep water Fishing for Tuna, Albacore, Mahi, Yellowtail possibly sail fish? I'm In San Diego, Ca, and I fish off the Coronado Islands and southern Baja California using rental gear, I just bought the Kapstan, and I was told it was a laughable 35lb drag reel and I need at least 50Lb of drag and more than 400 yrd 50+lb line to handle these species of fish that take lines with live to artificial lures and dive deep!

Received a KastKing Rover 50 as a gift (1/25/2021). Appears to be a solid reel with a striking appearance. But I noticed when in free spool (spinning the spool by hand)the line pawl guide does not rotate very far. After viewing the schematic it looks like the pawl has either one or two BUSHINGS at each end. Can I upgrade the bushing(s) to bearings? If so, where can I purchase and what size are they? Or, is there some other remedy? Love the reel.

So you had to wait for the Kastking rover , what about other brands that have been around for years such as ABU. I know its just sales talk from you but I will say that these reels do represent excellent value for the money.

Mine must be junk then. I bought two. One already is super loud after about 5 casts. Like it has a bad bearing or something.

I recently bought a 40L for kayak fishing, works great!
Combined with a Kunnan Veneto 15-30lbs (6.5ft) rod its perfection (couldn't get a Kastking one).
Greetings from Argentina.

I love my Rover 40R, and I'm especially happy that all sizes have a bait clicker alert, something lacking on a lot of the smaller casters that are used as an All-around fishing reel, sometimes I need a clicker for catfishing, sometimes I use it for bass and trout, sometimes I'm bobber fishing. Now all I need is a Rover in Emerald Green.
