Ive never been into Musky fishing but man watching you fish for them makes me want to try!
When I was a very young teenager I caught a baby 32" musky on a buzzbait in illinois. I was strictly bass fishing so to hook something like that was a hell of a fight. I remember my dad tried netting it and rushed it into the boat. Only problem was it was half in the net, hit the drivers console windscreen and went back in the water. I had so much slack in my line I was devastated that I lost it till my pole started moving on the deck. Long story short our net was too small but we did manage to land the fish. It may be small in the musky world but still was a big fish to me. Made a Memory of a lifetime and a picture I still keep til this day. Nearly 20 years later I'm still hunting my 2nd musky on a buzzbait. Props to your Co-angler and that net catch, very epic.

I remember acouple year's ago I caught a mid 30's pike and as soon as it hit the net the hook got caught in the net fish thrashed and split it's lip in two…all I thought to myself was it wouldn't of happened if I bogo gripped it…I personally think that bogo grips are fine to fish with if you use them right…always support the fish weight, keep it still with your other hand, and never hang a musky vertically from a BOGO
The only musky I've ever caught was on a figure 8 and I catch pike all the time on the 8 too!!!

If you really want to use fluoro, 80lb is too thin, you have to step up at least to 100-120lb (1mm).
In italy we have pikes and we don't use anything smaller than 100lb fluoro, and in some areas it is also forbidden (only wire leader allowed).
A decent pike is going to cut 80lb fluoro with no effort, i bet a musky is going to do worse.
