I’ve noticed that the heavy taper on this rod is unlike typical American rod tapers. I own a poison adrena 611 medium plus. The taper on this rod is very much a medium tip plus medium heavy backbone. How would you describe the taper on the SD? Medium heavy tip plus heavy backbone, or something different? Saving my dollars anyways, and any perspective appreciated.

Compared to a Loomis MBR taper would you say it's about as fast? Been wanting an 844mbr but I prefer a shorter rod.

Great review! It makes me want a destroyer even more

This is a spot on review! The only thing I might have recommended is if you run the rod with 30lb braid it takes on a whole new life! I run one with 16lb flouro for swimjigs and chatterbaits in sparse cover but when you swap to the braid it is an unbelievable topwater and t-rig craw rod

I have the Super Destroyer as well and I am not a big fan of it for jigs. The handle is too slick and taper is to slow to me for the quick hook sets you described. I have other rods that do a better job… Loomis 803C NRX and GLX, 844C GLX, 904 NRX+, and the 873CCR NRX. However, it is a great rod and fun to fish. If I am going to take one rod on a kayak that is capable of doing it all, it's the Super Destroyer. I can't describe it but somehow this rod, with its weird taper, bends perfectly at different weights and loads. Also, you are right about weightless Senkos. To me it works great for Texas rigged stuff with a bullet weight or even a Free Rig.

Great video Brian! Adding in the C2C video to show the action on the stick gives a great perspective that you never see on other rod reviews. You absolutely nailed it bro! The SD is definitely one of my favorite rods. It’s an amazing skipping rod, and an amazing chatter stick too!

You keep using that word parabolic. I do not think it means what you think it means

Nailed it. Super explanation of a Japanese heavy single hook rod. The freeze-frame inset of the rod bend was awesome. Look forward to your next one. Debo mentioned you were his guest this Saturday. Should be fun

I bought the x-bites based on your review (glad I did). Have you used the steez ct sv? Considering buying one for the x-bites…

I totally understand what you mean about the hooksets. It took me a long time to get a good hookup ratio with my Tachyon Shaft and I went through the same recalibration. Now when I get bit on it I crackem instantly and it does that super well.

Have you tried this rod with a sleeper gill?

Decent topwater or jerkbait or too stiff?

I am glad to hear that it bumped the X-Bites down. I have the Super Destroyer and the Madbull and wanted the x-bites next. Perhaps, it’ll be the Dark Sleeper instead. How does it compare with the Tachyon Shaft?

I've been like a Madbull waiting for these reviews 🙌

This was my first P5 last year. And I love it. I was super happy with how it could throw anything from a Texas/Free Rig to a spinnerbait to dragging a 3/4oz football. Thank you for this review because I was heavily debating if I wanted to buy an x-bites but it sounds like I can put that money elsewhere in the collection.

100% agree, the grip is the only thing I'm not a huge fan on. Still such a crazy good rod, I've been using it for the 3/8 – 1/2 oz Ouze mainly.

I absolutely adore your reviews man, i own the previous model super destroyer and it's one of my go to junk fishing rods. Always has a use even if it's just an alternative color.

Any cons on the rod?

I don't know if this model is going to make it to the Most Wanted Rod- list. Maybe after the 23 models came out

I think I see your X bites up on the trade market soon.. 😄 I pretty much use mine for a light worm rod or finesse soft plastic t rig.

How would you compare it to a 803 NRX?

Fun frogging rod too. I saw you got those slither K’s and being on the smaller side, they are perfect for it. I have never fished an Xbites but of the 3 P5’s I’ve owned (SD, Madbull, and Windbuster) it’s easily the most sensitive of the 3. Totally made me understand why my dad still loves little 6’6” rods, the way it cracks hooksets is super fun
