It's such a myth that you need barstock, machined and anodized aluminum.
I've been a big fan of my Lamson liquid and Lamson remix but have also been looking at these sage spectrum C thanks for the review
Sage and Redington are hands down the worst business to do regarding customer service or warranties. My Redington pole snapped while bringing in a small stocked trout and after 6 months of b.s. and expense of shipping it back they would not fix it or replace it and when I asked for it back they had conveniently destroyed it.
Again WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER PURCHASED FROM, EVER.
Nice reviews and I agree definitely deserves best value reel title. I have this reel and it does exactly the job a reel needs to do and looks 10x better than Lamson Liquid while at it. Next model up from spectrum C though isn't Spectrum Max, which is Sages high end multi purpose reel, but just "Spectrum". There's no difference to Spectrum C but it's machined, not cast aluminum. I think it's wrong to repeat that cast reels aren't as strong, because they use thicker material strenght to compensate, because of certain limitations to casting geometry the design can't also be as detailed. Probably biggest difference really is that anodizing cast aluminum doesn't work as well. The result wouldn't be as pretty, so they use paint or powder coat for finish, which makes cast aluminum stand out and as you noticed, paint chips. Would be interesting to know from larger sizes what's the drag force in numbers. 5/6 it's super good enough but a 9/10 one might use for fish that actually need bit of slowing down.
Great reels. They fish extremely well. For $165 in my area, this reel in my opinion is hard to beat !! Thanks!
