Sunset Georges River Fishing (Big Whiting)

Biggest Whiting I’ve Ever Seen !!

How BIG do these sydney whiting get, what an underrated fishery. When I posted the photo of this Georges river beast (and believe me this video does it no justice whatsoever), I was inundated with photos from blokes that had come across them inadvertently to my inboxes. One things for sure I don’t think they are that rare seeing huge sizes from port hacking, parramatta river and not to mention the good old Georges river. The Whiting loves to forage for food in the surf zone quite often almost right at your feet in the shore dump waves waiting to see what might get washed up that they feed on like pipi’s, worms and other invertebrates but it seems you learn something new every day, and I suspect that these guys might have migration habits similar to their bigger cousins the Mulloway moving in and out of upper reaches of river systems. Get amongst some of these guys with some live worms, I guarantee if you get one you won’t be dissapointed.

Hey Dave Always cast out one rod as far as you can and wind it in slowly you catch a lot more whiting with that method ..and cast one and leave it ..leave a nice tail hanging of the worm on the hook Duno why but seems to catch more fish and adding a red tube ontop of hook they can see the bait from far away ..good video great fish 👍

I know the spot very well and it is my local, it does not produce much at all so I am not surprised that you caught only one, and outside of 2 hrs either side of tide the current is too strong (new and full moon it gets worst). Now after the floods the only thing you catch there are eels even now, plus there is still rubbish coming down still from upstream. Before you would pick up the odd fish but not much, most times nothing. I've caught one donkey of a whiting there as well once before. Nonetheless good video and thanks for the production. Zooming in on baiting is really good especially with those squirt worms.

Dave, love your videos, but that's not the right rig for whiting.

A size 2 or 3 ball sinker to a swivel, with a 50cm/60cm 6lb to 8lb trace, and a size 6 hook would have scored you more whiting at the Georges. Tube worms are gun bait for them though. 👍🏻

Great video mate, BTW you might have a better hook up on the circle hooks if you snell the eye. The clip-on swivel may be reducing your hook uprate.
