I was going to clean my fishing reels and then thought why don’t I make a how to clean a fishing reel video. Many subscribers ask me what is the best fishing reel. What is the best cheap fishing reel? What is the best spinning reel?
I get asked all sorts of questions about fishing reels so I thought I would try to take out 2 birds with one stone in this video and talk about the spinning reels that I use and my experience with them.
It turns out most of my spin fishing reels are Penn reels. I have the penn spinfisher the penn battle 2 the penn fierce 2 and in different reel sizes. I have caught some big fish on these fishing reels. I talk about my favorite spinning reel in the cheaper price range.
There are some expensive fishing reels. The most expensive spinner fishing reel is thousands of dollars! It’s crazy how expensive some fishing reels are. If you’re new to fishing like I am then I suggest starting with one of the fishing reels I mention in this video.
I would assume that the saltwater reel I love the most would also be a great reel for freshwater fishing also. But wait! This isn’t just a fishing reel review video. I also show you some fishing reel maintenance. To be more specific I show you penn fishing reel maintenance. So I hope you learn something with my attempt to show you how to clean a fishing reel.

Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth enjoyable.fishing recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.

What about your DIAWA reels that you use off shore? What sizes, line type, color and test?
I would advise against wd 40, if it’s on your reel it will inevitably get in your bait well and kill the bait or at the least on your bait and fish won’t hit it
Have the battle 2 8000. Bought penn to retail combo 10ft with bait runner for 119$ local bait shop w.o line
You should get a pen battle it’s pretty good. I’ve compared with spinfisher and I think it’s better
I have a Daiwa Ballistic LT 3000 on a 10' Savage gear Salmonoid 15-35g gramm rod that i use for smaller lures (10-30 gramm) when coastel or pier fishing and that is sooo smooth (the reel price is 300,-us$ here in Denmark). I also just got a (brand new old stock) Penn Slammer 460 on a 9' Savage Gear Salt 1DFR shore jigging 40-80 gramm rod (and that reel is only 100,-us$ new on sale). I use it for bigger lures (30-80 gramm) That Penn is a tank and i have no worries getting saltwater on it when boat fishing.
How about sending me some of those gears you don't use anymore… watch probably all your vids and love fishing but gear don't really sell here in antigua… would really appreciate that
Reel maintenance is very important i have a couple reels 30 years old and still use!!

Maintenance is key to a reels longevity. Im 58 and still have Penn reels that i bought as a teenager.
Wow that was a twilight zone type of a video. Attention all beginner fisherman. Please don’t call your reel a rod and please clean your reel more than once a year. This was a hard one to watch…
The cheapest and most dependable reel is the penn pursuit I have had the ll addition for two years and it works like it is brand new only like 35$

Nice vid, I just bought a Stradic ci4+ for a trip down to S.C(from Boston) for redfish, I already own a penn battle 2(4000) for light schoolie striper fishing in Maine. In your opinion should I take the Stradic back and pick up a BG and have money left over for another reel of my choice, or stick with the Stradic because it’s worth it?

60-70$ is pretty cheap also, i would guess that in Florida u would need at least a peen slammer, Shimano Saragossa, it Daiwa Saltist. Pretty much the 200$ range.
Penn must be good. I keep hearing great things about them. Is that the Penn battle 2 4000, 5000 or 6000?
