DIY Fishing Reel Spooler made from a Mouse Trap. This contraption makes it easier to spool fishing reels with any size fresh line. Gone are the days of searching for a pen or pencil to poke through the spool of line, and then holding it in place with your feet while you reel in the line. This is the best way to spool a fishing reel with line quickly, evenly and efficiently. I can spool saltwater reels with heavy test line, or spool ultralight reels with 2lb test. It’s a simple design and easy to make. All you need is a few blocks of wood, some screws and a mouse trap! Enjoy! And let me know if you have any questions.
The line i’m using in this video is Berkely Trilene 2lb and 14lb test.
The rod is a Falcon Bucoo Ultralight and the reel is a Abu Garcia Black Max.
This particular rod and reel combo is used for trout fishing on the Chattahoochee River.

Clever and real good idea for bait caster don't know about spinning reels coming off the spool that way.
The mousetrap is an awesome idea to create line tension. I scrolled through several very similar looking DIY spooling stations, but this one stood out as unique so I watched it first. I'm not sure what I'm building yet, but the mousetrap will likely be an element of the build. I have some Berkley Big Game spools that are 3 or 4 inches wide, so I might work the trap onto some sort of slide, possibly in tandem with another trap for even pressure on both sides of the spool.
I would run the spool so the line comes off the top just in case there is any nick in the spring. BRILLIANT idea…building one tonight.
