Having had to suffer through being overwhelmed at trying to figure out how to DIY fly fish streams in at least seven different US states, it seems to me that some sort of a system could help people figure out where (and where not) to try to DIY fly fish and offer information to those that want to give it a try. Questions like, is the fishing even worth the effort? How much effort does it take to get to the water? Can I park near the water? Is there anything for my family or friends to do in the area while I’m fishing? Is there anywhere to get lunch nearby? Helpful stuff like that. The system can be applied to individual fisheries, like I do for Putah Creek here as an example and roll out of the system, or larger areas like a state or mountain range. My hope is to apply this system to fisheries as I continue to explore and grow as an angler and offer the information to whoever wants it and, as an additional hope, have it help them in their DIY fly fishing ventures. (One of the goals of the channel is to demystify after all.). (Polite) suggestions on the content of the system, its application, or places you’d like me to rank are welcome, as is (polite) input on whether or not you think this is a worthwhile project.
