How to Make a Rod Holder For Pier Fishing – DIY

I received a request from: pucho513 to make homemade rod holders for pier fishing. Quickly after he mentioned the idea I thought of what I would say is a simple but effective design, after a little Google research I was right on the money, I made a few little tweaks based off of what I learned and drove to Home Depot to purchase the necessary items to make the rod holders. I purchased a 5×5 board, two feet of 4″ PVC, a few 1/4 inch bolts and washers. The total project time took about an hour with filming so it probably shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes if you have all of the necessary tools. This design is nice because you can mount it to the side of the pier and keep you rigs off of the concrete. The rod holders are also designed to pivot for optimal directional movement. If you enjoyed this simple DIY, let us know and we will work on more in the near future. Please like, share and subscribe. Thank you!

Just watched your video. Great idea! I thinking you could also rubber tubing in the inside of the cutout circles to help with slipping or scraping your rods. Just a thought!

To begin with…If you purchase a 4" Coupling -PVC (white) or ABS (black) – you get a thicker piece with finished sides for only a couple of bucks, and you can skip cutting and sanding. Keep the ideas coming though!

Josh, looking back this was/is such a good idea and inexpensive too. In 1 1/2 years time look at what you can buy in the store now for fishing that you HAD to make back then. Maybe, Just MAYBE, the sport is not going by the side of the road after all!!! With good people like you helping, it will be around a Long Time! Have a Great weekend and holiday! 🐟🐠😛

I didn't look through your comments but I'm sure somebody mentioned using a regular chop saw or miter saw is the easiest to cut the PVC that's where I've always used

I was wondering, if you put a washer between the wood and the PVC would it turn easier, or do you what a high friction connection?

I like the idea, definitely use a rod leash. wondering how well it holds up if a large shark, or grouper hits it.
