I will show you the 3 easiest kayak fishing mods that will instantly turn your regular kayak into a fishing kayak. Simple and cheap modifications. These 3 essentials are DIY kayak modifications. A lot of people may not take their kayaks fishing because they don’t feel equipped. With the 3 modifications/add ons I will show you how to easily turn your recreational kayak into a fishing kayak. In my humble opinion, if you want to go kayak fishing you will need a kayak fishing rod holder, a fishing crate and and a kayak anchor trolley. Those kayak rigging mods are the basics and you can build from there. In this video I’m doing these DIY kayak mods to my Wilderness Commander 120 kayak but these work on any kayak. As an added benefit, there is a certain satisfaction in building your own DIY fishing kayak.

lol well I was hoping we'd see him customize a Sun Dolphin or something…not a kayak that's already half of a fishing kayak lol
I fished for years in a regular sit-in yak, and the only accessories I added were a clamp-on Down Easter rod holder and a bungee on the front deck to hold a single flat Plano box. You can keep it very simple to get started and still have a lot of fun.
You have tied your anchor line on wrong. The correct way is to run the line along side the top hole and tie it to the bottom. Then get a very small tie-wrap and put the tie-wrap through the top hole and around the anchor line. By doing this, the top of the anchor stays up and if you do get snagged, you simply pull hard enough to break the tie-wrap and now your line is directly connected to the retractable end of the anchor, easily releasing it from the snag.
Instead of a crate behind me I made a wooden box that fits all my tackle boxes perfectly and it has 2 small compartments on the side with a cup holder and all my scents.
What if you kayak doesn't fit a crate? It has a storage are but its not wide enough. The model is a Sundolphin Journey 10ss
How heavy of an anchor do you suppose I'd need for my 14.5' tandem yak? Thanks!
my sit in kayak….. without a dry box but it has a fishing pole holder, thats all what could i do to make it a fishing/sea kayak
