The bell doesn’t have to go on the tip of the rod. You can connect it to one of the guide frames lower down. It takes very little motion to set it off, it doesn’t have to bounce around much. Easy to remove that way.

fun is fun. my biggest blue that I actually weighed was 76# on 15# big game trilene. caught it on cut shad, was getting ready to leave. don't think that it ever realized that it was hooked until my son-n-law sat down on it. gotta love it
