While this is very similar to the older model the fierce 2, there are some subtle differences. Is it worth the extra money? You be the judge.

I just bought a Fierce III 5000 combo with Medium Heavy 7' Penn rod. two days ago. I had it out on the jetty yesterday afternoon and caught a 20 pound stingray. I had 15 lb mono with a 25 lb mono leader running a jig head with a Z mann minnow and I got hit on the drop and it was like a freight train. It stripped 125 yards off before i could even start to slow it down. The drag worked great and I had no issues. It was a pulling son of a gun and it worked me over but we got it in. Awesome to catch one that size. Too much for this old man though 🙂
Penn also upgraded the bearings from the Fierce 2. The Fierce 2 has shielded bearings Fierce 3 has sealed bearings.
Really like both the rod and the reel ur2.pl/2314 but I have to be honest and mention that I paired them on different rigs. Haven't hooked a huge one yet; no doubt these pieces could handle it. Separate or as the combo. This set up will make the next trip to some saltwater with me as well.
Do you think this could take a dunk in the ocean, surf fishing? Or am I going to burn money lol
I have the 5000 but I don’t know which rod I should buy for it. I want to use it for bluefish and striped bass from the shore and don’t know a rod to get for it. Do you know any rods that aren’t too expensive that I could use? Thanks
What do you think about penn bettle ii than fierce iii. Whats make different?
