Shimano Tranx 300 Reel | Bass Fishing Gear Review

Shimano just released the Tranx 300 and 400 as new additions to their casting reel line up for bass and saltwater applications. If you’ve been looking for a super strong reel to throw swimbaits, big baits, A-rigs, Crankbaits, and even go inshore fishing, this might just be the reel for you.

See the gear here…

Baits We’ve used with this reel…

Huddleston Swimbait: http://bit.ly/2azFTon
Osprey Swimbait: http://bit.ly/2bqsLS0
10XD Crankbait: http://bit.ly/2gHT4F0
Lucky Craft Magnum Crankbait: http://bit.ly/2l1RDDR
River2Sea S-Waver: http://bit.ly/2aiu8Sh
Gan Craft Magnum Glidebait: http://bit.ly/2l3bxgM

The Tranx 300 fits the big bait niche perfectly for us. We found that it paired very well with our swimbait rods and worked equally well with big softbaits as it did with our glidebaits. The addition of a high speed version is another awesome upgrade from previous offerings into this category. With a high speed option the effectiveness of reactive fishing with glidebaits, wakebaits, and other fast moving baits is very high.

If you’re in the market for a big bait, high power, or offshore reel be sure and check out the new Tranx casting reel by Shimano.

Matt, I bought this reel after you upload this clip, I love it and it working ike first day, Just It didn't get drag involved couple time(couple days) when I was fishing, Like there is no drag at all and I couldn't retrieve. Did you have that experience?

Can you please tell me is it okay to put this reel on Westin w3 40-130 gram rod (1.5oz-4.5oz) ? What are the down size lures that Tranx 301 can cast? Like Super Shad Rap weighing 45 grams, will it throw it normally or its to big reel? And its okay to spool it with 40/50 pound braid? Wanna use it for pike lures in that range the rod is…Thx…

No way will I buy a reel with more than 6:1 with a line recovery no more than 28" because anything more is two fast .Don't need anything faster than a 5:8.1 with no more than 28 " of line recovery .

Just got 1 last night, paired it with a 13 fishing heavy action 8' swimbait rod. Going to use it as my light action musky rig.

The coolest thing about the reel is how well it's sealed off and they don't even show case it. Tackle advisory really breaks this reel down. It's a gem for sure. I honestly use my curado k for swim baits as well as pretty much anything over 1/8. Honestly I think the curado k on my heavy st.croix is gonna get used to go frogging at 6 am tomorrow.

Hey Matt, I'm considering getting the tranx 300 to toss the shimano boy and jr waxing weighing in from 1 to 1.5 ounce. Do you think the tranx 300 will be able to toss the waxwing boy?

Good review thanks ; I’m about to purchase a Tranx ; I’m on the fence about what speed 7:6 or 5:8 what would be the best all-around speed ?being able to slow down when necessary ; say creeping a Huddleston on faster reel ratio or speed up when necessary on slower reel ratio ; for say faster retrieve topwaters , wakebaits , or catching up to fish coming at boat ? I’m a Mass fisherman kind of new to the bass fishing game ; getting ready to retire and make this main hobby ; mostly in smaller lakes and ponds. I’ll be pairing this up for Dobyns 806SB Thanks John

can you adjust the breaking system inside the reel or is it only external breaking for making adjustments? also i know this reel is built for bigger baits but I was also wondering whats the smallest lure weight you used when testing ? I throw mostly 3/16, 1/4, 3/8 crank baits and chatterbaits, but this past season I started using bigger swim baits but was afraid of burning the gears in some of my reels. Thanks in advanced !!!!!!!

Do you think that the TranX 300 is too much reel for swimbaits 3oz or less? I'm budgeting for an introductory swimbait setup, and the rod I've chosen has a lure rating of 1 – 3oz. Just wondering if the Curado K would get the job done, or if I should step it up 🙂 Thanks fellas, Happy Holidays!

Hi Matt I’m very new to the Swimbait game. I’m looking on getting my first setup nothing to fancy or expensive probably to throw medium Swimbaits and s waivers. Any recommendations that won’t break the bank? Btw I’m a huge Daiwa fan any reels out there good for that setup. Thanks
