That drag system was designed to be an alternative to the baitrunner system.
I bought this exact reel two years ago, worth every penny. I use it for distance at hydro dams for hybrid striper and stripers, caught a lot of fish on it.
Not a surf reel in my opinion Josh. I beg to differ, because it is not even remotely designed to be used in salt water or even near it. Not sealed, bearings get exposed, good bye. That spool shaft will be a sand and dirt magnet. I am curious if the spools are metal or plastic.
Sell it for what it isβ¦a carp fishing reel, even though it doesnβt even have a bait runner design. I am shocked Shimano would even market this as a surf reel.
