$200 vs $50 Spinning Reel Review Penn Battle and Daiwa D Wave

Today, Joe breaks down the biggest differences between expensive and cheap spinning reels and helps you figure out which you should buy. Today’s video started with some footage of the two reels with an intro talking about how this video should help tell you about these two reels and help you decide which one is best for you. First, we introduced both reels and the first one we talked about today was the Daiwa D Wave 5000. This reel comes with a 9ft rod and can not be bought as just the reel. Today we will not be talking about the rod itself because we already have a video that talks about it. This reel is what we use mostly for sharks and rays but could also be a great reel for larger catfish. Next, we talked about the Penn Battle 6000 which technically size-wise is larger but really feels about the same size as the D Wave. This reel can also be bought as a combo but today we just talked about the reel. We also use this reel for primary sharks and rays as it’s an amazing inshore reel. At this point in the video, we also spent some time talking about how we use both reels while doing SF Fishing. We live in the bay area so both of these reels are extremely important for the fishing scene here. Next, I summarized both reels drag systems and pointed out the upsides and downsides for each. Because these were both spinning reels, they both have interchangeable spools which is a huge upside for fishermen. To wrap up this fishing reel review I talked about how the handle and reel housing felt. This led me to talk about which reel you should buy and why you spend more money on a more expensive reel. Overall these were two amazing spinning reels and both great options for any saltwater fisherman.

About Us:

JZFishing was created in December of 2019 by a group of three teenagers all with a passion for fishing! Over the past couple of years, we have committed to building a community where we are motivated to share our experiences with others. Joe the oldest member of the group is a very optimistic outdoorsman with the most experience in stingray fishing. Joe loves to spend his fishing trips in the saltwater especially when on a boat. Zach the second oldest member is also a pro stingray fisherman and also enjoys a good day in the salt catching the biggest fish possible. Jack the youngest member is the fly fisherman of the group and freshwater master. Jack enjoys spending his days fishing saltwater with the other two but he really shines on the river with a light fly fishing setup!

Bought the D-Wave 8-ft spinning rod. Impressive quality for price point on the rod itself. Very well made! But the spinning reel left a lot to be desired. It's smooth and the drag is okay. It's weak point is under a heavy load the neck will begin to twist and buckle. Also you'll lose cranking power because of that.

Spend the extra $50 and get the Daiwa Eliminator. All aluminum construction with four ball bearings plus one anti-reverse bearing. With that rig I can tackle any big game fish any large stripers over 20 in and up. Plus it's salt water ready!
If there was a downside one of them would be should have made a smaller knob for the crank arm. If there was a second minor complaint it would be they should have made this available in a 5.31 gear ratio instead of the 5.7 to 1. You get way more cranking power with the 5.3 to 1. Other than that it's a great real and will last for years if taken care of properly.
